DOOSAN and ACS elevate VG Cargo to the next level

VG Cargo starts operation of its second ULD handling system at Hahn Airport completing the warehouse expansion of the cargo terminal (bldg. 860). The new part of terminal is designed to handle mainly BUPs by means of a state-of-the-art automated ETV (Elevating Transfer Vehicle) which sets a new benchmark for cargo handling efficiency at the airport.

Following a period of detailed consulting and pre-engineering, which began in 2013 plus 300 tons of steel and 35,000 individual parts later, the project-partnership between Doosan Logistics Europe GmbH and ACS GmbH (Advanced Cargo Handling Systems) put the second fully automated ETV system at VG Cargo into full operation in the beginning of October 2015.

The system includes four 20ft. truck docks with integrated weight systems, 2 bypass lanes with 3 build / break workstations and 15ft. ETV with a 3 level storage rack for 222 ULD positions providing additional peak-time handling and storage capacity.

The IT system which is user friendly and optimized for touchscreen will be connected to the HERMES cargo management system for the data transfer of ULD details enabling advance planning, on-line control and monitoring of inventory, breakdown and transfer operations.

You can visit Doosan and ACS at the “Inter-Airport-Europe” trade fair in Munich between the 6th and the 9th of October at their stand 1538 in hall B5 to find out more. (www.doosan.com)
